Envisioning Better Neighborhoods

workshop working with youth on vision mapping their neighborhoods.

This month, Awenyo facilitated a hands-on workshop with primary school students in Willemstad, inviting them to reflect on the neighborhoods they live in — and reimagine what those neighborhoods could become.

In the first activity, students mapped their current communities, noting the places that shaped their daily lives: homes, shops, schools, shared spaces. In the second, they designed a vision of what a more just, joyful, and connected neighborhood might look like — and explored the small steps they could take to help make it real.

Their ideas were hopeful and grounded: more green spaces, safer roads, kind neighbors, places to gather. Many saw themselves not just as observers, but as contributors — planting trees, helping others, leading by example.

This workshop is part of Awenyo’s commitment to nurturing youth as agents of transformation — encouraging reflection, building capacity, and awakening a sense of responsibility for the world around them.
