Junior Youth Empowerment MINI Camp

On November 6, Fundashon Awenyo hosted a lively and inspiring Junior Youth Empowerment Mini-Camp at Santa Rosa de Lima School, bringing together over 53 students from Groups 7 and 8 for a morning of learning, collaboration, and joy.

Guided by several of Awenyo’s dedicated youth and young adult Animators, the camp invited participants to explore teamwork, trust, and the power of unity through a series of interactive activities and games. Each exercise was designed to strengthen cooperation, reflection, and positive group dynamics — key capacities that help young people become agents of constructive change in their schools and communities.

One of the most memorable moments was the “Rope of Solidarity” challenge, where teams carried a long rope across the gymnasium while performing coordinated tasks such as rotating in full circles — all without letting the rope bend or twist. The activity demanded patience, consultation, and careful teamwork, and culminated in the two groups joining together to form a “human propeller” — a creative symbol of unity in motion.

The morning also included a spirited “Freeze Dance” session, featuring an original song written and produced by the Awenyo team titled “Kana Huntu” — meaning “Walking Together.” When the music stopped, participants shared one quality they admired about the person nearest them, cultivating appreciation, kindness, and joy. Another highlight, “The Human Machine,” encouraged groups to invent a machine that could operate only if every member contributed — reinforcing the lesson that true progress depends on everyone’s participation.

Throughout the camp, laughter, music, and reflection filled the school’s courtyard and gymnasium. Rather than competing, students discovered the joy of working together and supporting one another toward a shared goal — embodying the very spirit of unity that underpins Awenyo’s approach to education and empowerment.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Santa Rosa de Lima School for welcoming this initiative and to all the Animators and volunteers who helped make the day possible. Events like this reflect Awenyo’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a generation of youth who learn to lead through cooperation, service, and love for humanity.
