Teacher Training with Local Schools
The Awenyo Foundation signed an agreement to begin working with 3 local high schools in Curaçao to carry out ongoing capacity-building teacher training with its educators, beginning in the coming school year. This marks a significant milestone in our work, and a shared step toward reimagining what education can be — not just for students, but for the teachers who guide them.
The training program, grounded in a dynamic of study, group reflection, and action invites teachers to reconnect with the deeper purpose of their work — to see education not merely as the transfer of information, but as a profound act of service and as a means of nurturing and helping to release the potential in their students. Themes that will be covered in the training include rethinking classroom leadership, cultivating student ownership of learning, and fostering a culture of service and ethical responsibility in schools.
Together with the school’s leadership and faculty, we will explore practical ways to move beyond rote learning and high-pressure exam-driven culture in schools, toward creating classrooms that are participatory, purpose-driven, and nurturing of both character and capability. Sessions will also address issues such as burnout, empowerment, and how to nurture virtues and a sense of order and inner discipline in classrooms that are free of punitive measures.
We are deeply honored to begin this journey with such a committed group of educators. As we work together over the coming year, we hope to contribute to a process of learning that is transformative — not only in outcomes, but in spirit.
