Teacher Capacity Building, Local Educators

New partnership with local high schools.

The Awenyo Foundation has been working with a number of local schools in Curaçao to carry out ongoing capacity-building teacher training seminars with teaching and educational staff, beginning in the coming school year. This marks a significant milestone in our work, and a shared step toward reimagining what education can be — not just for students, but for the teachers who guide them.

The training program, grounded in a dynamic of study, group reflection, and action invites teachers to reconnect with the deeper purpose of their work — to see education not merely as the transfer of information, but as a profound act of service and as a means of nurturing and helping to release the potential in their students. Themes that will be covered in the training include rethinking classroom leadership, cultivating student ownership of learning, and fostering a culture of service and ethical responsibility in schools.

Together with the school’s leadership and faculty, we will explore practical ways of working creatively as teachers that value potential, intentions, and character building, and development of capabilities to lessen the pressures inherent in typical exam and performance metrics centred cultures of academics around the world. We look at creating classrooms that are participatory, purpose-driven, and nurturing of both character and capability in parallel to intellectual excellence. Sessions will also address issues such as burnout, empowerment, and how to nurture virtues and a sense of order and inner discipline in classrooms that are free of punitive measures.

We are deeply honored to begin this journey with such a committed group of educators. As we work together over the coming year, we hope to contribute to a process of learning that is transformative — not only in outcomes, but in spirit.
